On April 22, the General Administration of Customs of China officially issued the "Announcement on Plant Quarantine Requirements for Importing Fresh Passion Fruit from Vietnam", which clearly stated that fresh purple passion fruit produced in Vietnam that meets China's quarantine standards will be allowed to enter the Chinese market. The announcement emphasized that the varieties open for import this time are limited to purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims), focusing on five types of quarantine pests, including guava fruit fly (Bactrocera correcta), oceanic mealybug (Planococcus minor), South China mealybug (Planococcus lilacinus), cocoa hairy two spore (Lasiodiplodia theobromae) and gorgeous pythium (Pythium splendens).
Since July 1, 2022, China has gradually opened up the import of Vietnamese passion fruit through a pilot project, initially limited to Pingxiang Port and Dongxing Port in Guangxi. With the smooth progress of the trial operation, the scope of the ports of entry will be expanded to the border ports throughout Guangxi one month later. By November 27 of the same year, the first batch of 18.5 tons of Vietnamese passion fruit completed the inspection and quarantine process at Pingxiang Youyiguan Port, marking the official opening of the new trade channel for agricultural products between China and Vietnam.
